Introducing Joel Waterman

Short Biography
Joel Waterman of Aldergrove, who plays with CF Montréal, played his first game for Canada MNT in November 2022 and has been selected for the Canadian squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Joel Robert Waterman was born in Surrey in 1996 and raised in Aldergrove. Joel began soccer at age five with Aldergrove YSA, later playing youth soccer for Langley United and Surrey United SC. Joel played for BC provincial teams, including at the 2013 Canada Summer Games.
A defender/midfielder, Waterman played college soccer with Trinity Western University Spartans from 2014 to 2018, where he was team captain, won a Canada West silver medal and was selected to the Canada West All-Star team. During his off-seasons, Waterman played with various PDL teams, including TSS Rovers.
In 2019 Waterman turned professional with Cavalry FC of the Canadian Professional League. In 2020, Waterman transferred to Major League Soccer’s Montreal team, the first CPL player to move to the MLS. In 2021 Waterman won a Canadian Championship Voyageurs Cup with CF Montréal.
Joel Waterman was called up to several camps and projects for the Canadian senior men’s national team from 2021, gaining his first MNT appearance in November 2022 against Bahrain and has been selected for the Canadian squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
